What is a golf links course?

As a genuine golf links course, Fanø Golf Links is characterized by its location near the sea, in a special type of landscape on sandy earth, and with the special vegetation which originates from these conditions.
Just as on the Scottish golf links courses, sheep and cows
previously grazed on the areas where there now are fairways, and fertilization occurred naturally. In this way, the firm, short turf, which is also characteristic for a golf links course, was formed.
Several of the holes have so-called “blind strokes”, as can be found on the Scottish courses, where
the green is hidden behind the dunes.
It is an exciting and different experience to play on a golf links course both for the skilful golfer, and for the beginner, and it is a must for a real “golfer”.
